SVL Cross Country Convenes in Arbuckle

ARBUCKLE, CA (MPG) – With temperatures feeling more like August rather than the beginning of October, Sacramento Valley League harriers convened at the Arbuckle Golf Club for their first league meet.

On the 3.1-mile varsity course, the fastest times were run in the varsity boy’s division and when all was said and done, Colusa won the meet with five competitors, all underclassmen, finishing in the top 10.

Led by race winner Brian Sarabia (19:01-PB), the four other RedHawks who finished in a pack included Javier Perez (22:43) in seventh, Jax Lay (22:45) in eighth, Brock Prior (23:11) in ninth and Iker Cruz (23:23) in tenth.

Williams’ freshman Jeremiah Perez (19:33-PB) had another nice outing claiming second, while teammate Phillip Santillan (20:19) was fourth.

For the host Bears, Adan Beltran (21:33) crossed the line in fifth.

On the varsity girl’s side, the Yellowjackets’ Lucia Vidrio-Mederos (24:47-PB) bested the field that also included a contingent of three Colusa runners comprised of Alexia Carmona (27:51-PB) in fourth, Cristal Bruno (28:57) in seventh and Leina Awai (30:11) in eighth.

Meanwhile, in the Mid-Valley League, Maxwell traveled to Durham and saw Jadyn Karlonas run a season’s best 25:19 on the three-mile course to take third in the varsity girl’s competition, while among the varsity boys, Julio Chavez (21.06-PB) was sixth and Wyatt Roach (23:18) was ninth.

This week, SVL teams will make their way to Cottonwood for the West Valley Coed Invitational on Oct. 9, with Maxwell hosting an MVL meet on Oct. 7.
