Robert Douglas Mathews

9/1/1951 – 7/28/2023

Robert Douglas Mathews passed away at the age of 71 unexpectantly in his home on July 28, 2023. He leaves behind his beloved wife Penny of 41 years.

Robert was born in Colusa, California. He was a life-long resident of Arbuckle. He graduated from Pierce High school in 1969 where he made many friends and memories. He played football and was a member of two championship football teams. After graduation he attended Yuba College.

Robert was a man of many talents and worked in numerous industries including truck driving, land leveling and as a mechanic, essentially a jack of all trades, and according to him, a master of all! He eventually settled into farming full time on the family almond ranch where he utilized his skill and talents.

Some of his favorite past times were reading, especially western novels, Sudoku and crossword puzzles, hunting and helping friends in need. He also cherished his many years serving as an Arbuckle Volunteer fireman.

Robert will be remembered for his quick wit, his sense of humor and his giving personality.
Robert is survived by his wife Penny, his son Robert (Kelly) Mathews, his daughter Melissa (Darren) Smith, his sisters Linda Drawbert and Cynthia (Wayne) Lowery, six grandchildren, three great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents Doug and Eleanor and his brother David.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, August 5 at 11:00 a.m. at the Arbuckle Golf Club. Lunch will be provided.
