Despite a receiving a scare in East Nicolaus on Oct. 12, the Colusa RedHawks emerged with a hard fought 3-2 win, then made their way to Willows two nights later, where they swept the Honkers 3-0 to remain unbeaten in the Sacramento Valley League.
Against a much-improved East Nic squad, Colusa got all they could handle before putting away the Spartans 18-25, 25-15, 28-26, 18-25, 15-11 to take a two game lead in the SVL.
It marked only the third time this season the RedHawks (28-7, 12-0) were pushed to five sets.
Four players posted double-doubles in the victory led by Reese Roper, with 20 kills and 20 digs, and Karsyn Gwinnup, who added 19 kills and 11 digs to the cause.
Setter Abby Myers handed out 36 assists to go along with 21 digs, while Anahi Guzman anchored the back row, making 20 digs and 28 service receptions.
Colusa also got a spark from Carly Simmons, who scooped 10 digs and played well at the net, where she accounted for five blocks.
In Willows, the RedHawks were never really challenged by the Honkers and secured the 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 win in relatively easy fashion, despite the deceptively close scores.
Myers remained consistent in directing the offense, dishing out 25 assists, while Gwinnup hammered 10 kills, and Leah Ferrara landed five.
Guzman recorded seven digs, while Roper and Lexy Avera pitched in with six and five digs, respectively.
Colusa hopes to keep its league record unblemished when it closes out the regular season this week, starting with a match at home against Pierce on Oct. 19, before heading to Durham tonight.
The first round of the NSCIF playoffs begins on Oct. 26, although seeding has yet to be determined. ■
