COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Caltrans will hold a public town hall meeting Thursday, Nov. 5, to discuss the proposed removal and replacement of elm trees along 10th Street in Colusa.
The meeting begins at 3 p.m. at the Colusa Scout Cabin, 901 Parkhill St.
Caltrans previously proposed removing 43 American elm trees along 10th and Market streets, citing concerns about their condition and public safety. The proposal drew opposition from residents who questioned whether pruning and maintenance could preserve the trees.
During the Oct. 6 Colusa City Council meeting, independent arborist Gordon Mann presented an assessment commissioned by community members. Mann identified two trees that he believed required removal but said most could remain with proper pruning and continued maintenance.
Caltrans had planned to attend that council meeting but postponed its appearance to allow additional assessments.
The Nov. 5 town hall will focus on the removal and replacement of elm trees along 10th Street, according to the city’s public notice.
