Football Roundup (Oct. 27, 2023)

Colusa 27 – Live Oak 21

LIVE OAK, CA (MPG) – Colusa survived a scare on the road to remain unbeaten on the season and at the top of the Sacramento Valley League standings.

According to Coach Mikey Badaluco, the RedHawks turned in a sub-par performance and needed a fourth quarter touchdown from Adan Travis to escape with the victory.
In addition to the game winner, Travis scored two other times as part of his nine carries for 49 yards.

Will McCoy led the Colusa ground attack, garnering 77 yards on eight carries, while Landon Humphrey turned his one carry into a 25-yard scoring play.

The RedHawks were not as efficient as normal in the passing game, with quarterback Bo Coronado completing five of 13 passes for 122 yards, two of which were hauled in by

Peyton Humphrey, who finished with 69 receiving yards.

Defensive statistics were not available.

Tonight, Colusa finds itself in a battle for control of the SVL when it hosts a tough Winters squad on Senior Night.

Pierce 13 – East Nicolaus 20

NICOLAUS, CA (MPG) – In a rematch of last year’s Northern Section CIF Division IV second round playoff match, the Spartans exacted some revenge against the Bears, who brought Pierce’s 2022 season to an early and unexpected end.

While Pierce had the early momentum last Friday night, putting the game’s first two touchdowns on the board, Coach Anthony Tapia reported that the Bears made some costly mistakes and got somewhat complacent, which allowed East Nic to comeback and eventually overtake his team.

Alfonso Orozco scored on a 40-yard run in the first quarter and Nathan Gomez made his way into the end zone from 30 yards out to account for the Bears’ only points of the night.
Alex Orozco made an interception for the defense.

Sitting fourth in the Sacramento Valley League, Pierce (5-3, 1-2) entertains Durham at Greg LeMaster Field in Arbuckle this evening.

Williams 20 – Willows 29

WILLOWS, CA (MPG) – A back-and-forth affair on the road ended with the Yellowjackets coming up short and falling to 1-2 in the Mid-Valley League.

On the receiving end, Jose Martinez caught three passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns,

Kaled Rosales hauled in four balls for 50 yards, and Miguel Villanueva made a 20-yard grab for a score.

Also for the offense, running back Alejandro Hernandez carried 15 times for 60 yards, in addition to making two receptions for 40 yards.

No defensive statistics were available.

Williams (2-6,1-2) plays its last home game of the season tonight when the Trinity Wolves come to town.
