WINTERS, CA (MPG) – Ten varsity runners from Colusa and Pierce set individual records at the Sacramento Valley League’s third meet on a fast course in Winters.
Colusa’s Benji Granados turned in the best time of the day, covering the three-mile distance in a personal record time of 17:18, while five of the junior’s teammates finished in the top 10 to give the RedHawks a 23-46 win over second place Live Oak.
Jose Ceron (18:37) and Cesar Cruz (19:10) both set season records as they ended the race in fifth and sixth place, respectively, while William England (19:58) was seventh, Trenton Griffith (20:02) was eighth, and Brian Hernandez (20:17) was 10th, all of which were personal record times.
In the varsity girl’s division, Colusa edged Pierce 26-29 as the RedHawks’ Rajdeep Shoker (22:18) ran her fastest time at three miles to win the race and was followed by the Bears’ Karina Grajeda (23:55) in second place, which was also an individual best.
Colusa’s Giselle Valdes (26:24) was fourth, and Josslyn Garcia (29:22) had her best time of the season to finish 10th, while Pierce’s Isabel Alvarado (28:11) in seventh and Carla Moreno (28:56) in ninth, had their finest outings of the year as well.
On the two-mile course, the RedHawks’ Nuriel Cortes (13:45) and the Bears’ Abram Carillo (14:40) were second and fifth, respectively, in the JV boys’ contest.
Pierce’s Grace Szmurlo (18:49) was the JV girls’ winner, finishing ahead of teammates Pamela Vernon (23:39) in second and Rebecca Tinoco (27:53) in third.
This week, SVL teams returned to the Sacramento River State Recreation
Area in Colusa on Oct. 18 for a regular season meet.
