COLUSA, CA (MPG) – After defeating Live Oak 7-2 at home on Oct. 3, a short-handed RedHawk squad dropped its first Sacramento Valley League match of the season 3-6 to visiting Willows on Oct. 5.
Against the Lions, Colusa’s top three singles players, Olivia Nair (6-2, 6-3), Savanna Rochette (6-1, 6-2), and Vianey Farias (6-1, 6-2) all won in straight sets, while No. 5 Ashley Perez outlasted her opponent 6-0, 3-6, 10-5, and No. 6 Janell Garcia (6-3, 6-1) earned a victory as well.
Nair and Rochette had no trouble in doubles, posting the 8-1 win, nor did the combination of Perez and Garcia, who triumphed 8-2.
Missing their regular No. 3 and 4 singles players against the Honkers, Colusa was unable to clinch the Sacramento Valley League title, something that has eluded them for years.
Perez (6-4, 6-4) and Garcia (6-0, 6-3) picked up singles wins, then additionally recorded the only doubles victory of the day.
Colusa entertained Paradise on Tuesday then traveled to Willows on Thursday for a make-up
match that will decide the SVL championship.H
