
MAXWELL, CA (MPG) – Last Wednesday was a warm one for Mid-Valley League cross country teams as they gathered on a challenging course at the Bar M Cattle Company ranch for the fourth meet of the season.
In all, 54 athletes participated, but some of the fastest times of the day were turned in by the Williams varsity boys, which had four runners place in the top 10.
Adrian Solis won his second race of the season, covering the three-mile distance in a time of 19:25 to lead the ‘Jacket team that also included Leonardo Esparza (20:11) in fourth, Ernie Lemus (20:12) in fifth, and Gerardo Navarro (21:35) in ninth.
Maxwell’s Walter Avery crossed the line in a time of 20:22, which was good for eighth place.

The only local competitor in the varsity girl’s event was the Yellowjackets’ Jocelyn Santillan (33:12), who came in fourth.
In the JV boy’s race, the Panthers swept the top five places in 2.2-mile race starting with Vincent Orozco (14:39) in first and followed by teammates Kaeden Stallcop (15:54), Omar Rosales (16:58), Landon Barrett (17:11) and Karter Burt (17:25).
Maxwell’s Jayden Karlonas (18:47) was victorious in the JV girl’s race, finishing ahead of Williams’s Lorielle Contreras (19:38) in second.
Both the Panthers and Yellowjackets were back at it on Wednesday for an MVL meet hosted by Hamilton City, before Williams heads to Chico on Saturday for the Chico Autumn Invitational. H
