Last week was a good one for the Bears as they sandwiched victories over Sacramento Valley League foes Live Oak (25-8, 25-8, 25-22) and Paradise (22-25, 25-11, 25-13, 25-19), around a non-conference win over Gridley (25-20, 25-12, 25-17).
In Live Oak, Pierce thrashed the Lions in the first two sets before closing out the match by a narrower margin in the final set.
Laura Rivera had the hot hand against the Lions, hitting at a .526 clip as she converted 11 of 19 kill attempts.
Setter Magali Jauregui dished out 15 assists and served six aces, while Macey Myers made a team-high eight digs.
Traveling to Gridley the following evening, the Bears swept the Bulldogs behind six kills and three blocks by Maggie Reyna.
Jauregui replicated her stat line from the previous night with six aces and 15 assists, with Myers pitching in making nine digs and serving five aces.
Completing their three-game road trip in Paradise, the Bears got off to a slow start, dropping the first set to the Bobcats, but bounced back to claim the next three.
Pierce had a good night on the attack, with Rivera notching 11 more kills, Ysabel Charter delivering nine and Reyna finishing with eight.
Facilitating the offense was Jauregui, who handed out 21 assists, along with Jamie Figueroa, who accounted for 16.
Myers again led the defensive effort with 11 digs and 28 service receptions.
Things got tougher this week for Pierce (15-8, 5-3) as it hosted SVL leaders East Nicolaus and Willows on Oct. 3 and Oct. 5, respectively. H
