ARBUCKLE, CA (MPG) – For the first time in nearly four years, a summer tradition returned to Natalie Corona Gymnasium as the Pierce Volleyball team hosted its youth camp over a two-day period from July 27-28.
Thirty-two aspiring young volleyball players turned out to hone their skills and expand their knowledge of the sport.
New head coach Lauren Ornbaun, herself a product of the camp, was pleased not only with the number of participants but also with the way her squad interacted with those who attended.
“For the first camp in a few years, we thought it was a good turnout,” Ornbaun said. “By opening the gym to the community – and allowing our players to work with younger kids – you get kids who look up to our players and, in the future, want to be in their shoes. It was fun to see our players work with the younger campers. I was also very happy with my varsity players who spent all day helping with the camp then stayed for practice, which for me as a coach shows their dedication.”
For more than a decade, a hallmark of the Pierce volleyball program has been tied to its tradition of teamwork, and with the successful completion of the youth camp, Pierce has taken another step in continuing that legacy.H
