Having repeated as the District 2 and Northern California State Champions, the Colusa Area Jr. League softball team made a return trip to the West Region Tournament held in Tucson, Arizona, which began last Saturday.
Braving the soaring temperatures, Colusa was one of nine teams vying to represent the West at the Jr. League Softball World Series.
Colusa opened with a 16-1 loss to host Marana Little League on July 22, before coming back strong the following day to rout Four Peaks, the second Arizona team, by a score of 13-1.
Against Marana, Peyton Miller led the way with two hits, whereas in the blowout over Four Peaks, Braelyn Santana got the win in the circle, striking out five, while Baylee Guizar collected three hits and drove in a pair of runs.
Still, Colusa saw its run come to an end in its second game on July 23 with a 14-4 loss to Southern California’s Baldwin Park, although no statistics were available.
In addition to Miller, Santana, and Guizar, the team included Abby Coronado, Bella Romero, Cece Mitchum, Cindel Oliver, Eloise Guerrero, Kennedy Nall, Maci Garofalo, Marlie Berry, and Reyna Sullivan. ■
