Nine softball players named All-League

With the conclusion of the 2023 softball season, nine Colusa County athletes were named to the All-League team in their respective leagues.

Maxwell – Mid-Valley League:

After finishing third in the MVL, the Panthers (10-8-1) went on to claim the Northern Section CIF Division VII title.

Three players, senior Jocelyn Lazarus, along with juniors Shelby Dunlap and Emma Hendrix, received All-MVL recognition.

Although no pitching statistics were kept, Lazarus, in her final season, performed admirably in the circle as the Panthers’ No. 1 arm, while also maintaining a .368 batting average.

Williams’s Ty Howell-Coombs

Dunlap, Maxwell’s leadoff batter, set the table for the offense in 2023, hitting .355 and scoring 21 runs.

Hendrix, who hit in the second hole, led the team with a .468 average and drove in 12 runs as well.

Williams – Mid-Valley League:

Inclement weather and adverse field conditions resulted in just an eight game season for the Yellowjackets (0-8).

Sophomore Madison Davalos represented Williams on the All-MVL team, although statistics were not available.

Colusa – Sacramento Valley League:

Fourth place Colusa (11-14) saw three of its own earn All-SVL spots, including seniors Karsyn Gwinnup and Avery Lay, in addition to sophomore Ava Garcia.
Statistics from the season were not available.

Pierce – Sacramento Valley League:

Sophomore Maciey Hoebel was the seventh place Bears’ (5-15) All-SVL pick, although no statistics were available.

Princeton – Evergreen League:

The Eagles (4-11) finished fifth in league play this season and had freshman Sissy Winn named to the All-EL team.

Sophomore Mackenzie Wills and freshman Lupita Espinoza received honorable mention recognition. â–
