Photo courtesy of Merced CoronaIt’s been a busy, albeit successful, past two months for the hardworking La Corona Boxing Club, as four of its fighters won bouts over the span.
Luiz Huerta of Arbuckle made his amateur debut on Apr. 15, in Salinas, and emerged victorious in a back-and-forth match.
Following Huerta was a fight featuring Ramiro Solis, of Williams, who notched the second win of his young career when he prevailed on May 6, in Carson City.
One day later, Leilani Bravo, of Colusa, also registered a victory in Carson City, defeating an opponent from Sacramento and extending her overall record to 5-4.
In the club’s final contest, Grimes’s Felix Carbajal, evened his record at 1-1 after winning out over a foe from Woodland on May 13 in Sacramento.
With over 30 boxers in the club, the four fights were just the beginning of more to come, according to head coach Merced Corona.
“We will continue to travel around California and Nevada this summer with our best boxers from throughout Colusa County,” said Corona, who also expressed his gratitude to assistant coaches Rick Bowen, Jose Beltran, Jose Rivera, Ramiro Solis, Niko Williams, and Angel Ambriz for preparing La Corona fighters to compete.
“This is a county-wide effort,” said Corona. ■
