Colusa softball downs Pierce

Pierce second baseman Isela Ambriz takes the throw to force out Colusa’s Abby Maciel in a game on May 2.

Colusa upped its win streak to four straight last week, after sweeping Pierce in two Sacramento Valley League contests.

May 2 was Senior Day in Colusa and the RedHawks’ soon-to-be graduates powered the team to a 5-2 victory, led by Karsyn Gwinnup who went 3 for 3 with a double and three runs scored.

Carly Simmons had a 2 for 3 day, while Brooklyn Bradbury smashed a double and Naomi Silva registered Colusa’s only other hit.

In the circle, Avery Lay struck out 10 and scattered nine hits.

For the Bears, Charlie Wayman was 3 for 4, Jocelyn Medina went 2 for 4, Magali Jauregui doubled, with Maicey Hoebel, Chasey Miller, and Ciera Dye each recording hits as well.
In Arbuckle on May 4, Colusa put big numbers on the board in the first and fourth innings as they went on to a 13-0 shutout win over Pierce.

Edith Anderson was 3 for 3 with a triple; Lay, Simmons, and Elle Faris each picked up a pair of hits; while Bradbury and Addison Lay both doubled.

Ava Garcia went all five innings in the circle, striking out five and yielding just a single hit, which came off the bat of Medina.

Colusa (11-11, 8-5) hosted Durham in a make-up game on Monday, and won by a score of 14-1, although statistics were not available, then played a non-conference game against Woodland Christian on Wednesday and another rescheduled contest with Paradise on Thursday.

Pierce (5-15, 3-11) saw its season come to an end after a seventh place finish in the SVL.■
