Pierce softball splits with Live Oak

Pierce’s Chasey Miller stretches to get the putout in the Bears’ game against Live Oak on April 21.

A young Bears’ team picked up its first Sacramento Valley League win last Tuesday in Live Oak, but couldn’t keep the momentum and dropped the second game of the series with the Lions at home on Friday.

In the 3-1 victory, Magali Jauregui scored a run in the first inning, while Chasey Miller and Ciera Dye both crossed the plate in the third to provide Pierce with all it needed to secure the win.

Maicey Hoebel had a strong outing in the circle, recording nine strikeouts.

In the series finale, which ended in a 15-3 loss, the Bears scored all of their runs in the third inning after consecutive hits by Jauregui, Charlie Wayman, Jocelyn Medina, and Hoebel.

Although it pulled Pierce within three, the Lions broke the game open with seven runs in the fifth.

The Bears (3-12, 1-8) took on Durham at home on Tuesday and will travel on Friday to finish the series with the Trojans ■
