Pierce baseball hits three game skid

Pierce’s Luke Myers delivers a pitch in the Bears’ game against East Nicolaus on April 11.

Two Sacramento Valley League contests against East Nicolaus and a non-conference match up at Sutter Health Park with Delta did not go as hoped for the Bears as they suffered three setbacks last week.

Starting off at home against the visiting Spartans last Tuesday, Pierce managed just one run in a 1-11 loss.

Luke Myers, Colton Vanlaningham, and Tony Maldonado each finished 2 for 3 in the game, although

Pierce’s only run came in the third inning, when Julian Camberos scored after taking one off the helmet to reach base.

Playing on the River Cats’ field in Sacramento the following day, the Bears gave up 10 hits and six runs to Delta in the first two innings, then rallied for five runs in the final two frames, but it wasn’t enough as they fell 7-10.

Myers was 2 for 2 and Rodney Hofhenke was 2 for 3, while Camberos, Maldonado, and Brayden Hoebel collected one hit apiece.

Hitting the road for its final contest last week, Pierce jumped out to a 6-0 lead after two innings in Trowbridge, but saw the Spartans respond with seven in the third and ultimately hand the Bears an 8-12 loss.

Hoebel and Vanlaningham both ended the game 2 for 4, Myers doubled and drove in a pair of runs, and Camberos contributed an RBI double.

Looking to get back on track this week, Pierce (5-10, 2-6) was in Live Oak on Tuesday, and returns home to face the Lions on Friday.■
