Facing an unbeaten East Nicolaus squad in two Sacramento Valley League games last week, the Bears fell at home on Apr. 11 by a score of 1-17, then were shut out on the road 0-15 by the Spartans two days later.
Pierce was in good company this season, however, as East Nic has outscored its opponents 116-13, while its pitching staff has recorded 153 strikeouts thus far.
Still, the Bears were able to plate a run in the first game, when Charlie Wayman came through with a one out single then scored after Jocelyn Medina doubled and Maicey Hoebel delivered the third hit in the frame.
On the road for the second game against the Spartans, Magali Jauregui, Chasey Miller, and Ciera Dye each had a hit, but Pierce was unable to push any runs across the plate.
Still searching for its first SVL win, the Bears (2-11, 0-7) were in Live Oak on Tuesday before returning home to complete the series with the Lions on Friday.■
