RedHawks down Anderson to advance in D4 playoffs

Colusa’s Landon Humphrey lays in two of his game high 20 points during the No. 2 RedHawks’ win over No. 7 Anderson in the second round of the NSCIF Division IV playoffs on Feb. 17.

No. 2 seeded Colusa jumped out to a 14-2 lead to start the game last Friday night at Don Bransford Gymnasium.

Although No. 7 Anderson kept it close initially, the RedHawks blew the game open in the second half en route to a 60-41 victory in the second round of the Northern Section CIF Division IV playoffs.

After having a first round bye, Colusa wasted little time getting going, as they immediately rendered the Cubs press useless and, in turn, capitalized on Anderson turnovers.

But Anderson, who toils in a tough Northern League, battled back, hitting some timely three point shots and cut the deficit to five at halftime.

Still, the RedHawks came out hot in the third quarter, outscoring the Cubs 18-9 in the period to take control of the game.

Leading scorer Landon Humphrey pumped in a game high 20 points, while Isaiah Travis notched his eighth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Seth Kalisuch finished with 12 points and Leo Bedolla cleared 15 boards to go along with eight points.

With the win the RedHawks (24-5), co-champs of the Sacramento Valley League, squared off against No. 6 Gridley (13-12), who upset No. 3 Orland to reach the semifinal round, in a contest that was decided Wednesday night.

Although results were not available by the Pioneer Review deadline, the victorious team will head to Shasta College on Saturday at 11 AM for the championship game against the winner between No. 1 West Valley and No. 4 U-Prep. â–
