Lady Bears to semis after win over CV

Pierce’s Jocelyn Medina lines up a shot in a game from earlier this month. Medina scored 46 points in the No. 3 Bears NSCIF Division IV playoff win over No. 6 Central Valley.

No. 3 seeded Pierce, the Sacramento Valley League champion, took care of business against No. 6 Central Valley registering the 59-41 victory last Tuesday night at home, and as a result advanced to the semifinal round of the Northern Section CIF Division IV playoffs.

Section scoring leader Jocelyn Medina dropped 47 points and pulled down eight boards, while Cindy Corona finished with seven rebounds and four points for the Bears who extended their win streak to 17 straight games.

Pierce (26-2) was in Redding on Feb. 21 to face No. 2 U-Prep, the last team to defeat the Bears, exactly two months ago to the day.

Pierce upset the Panthers on Tuesday night by a score of 78-76 and will play No. 1 Lassen for the section title on Saturday at 12:45 PM at Shasta College.â–
