Colusa flexed its muscles last week, crushing two Sacramento Valley League opponents in the process.
Playing at home for the first time this season, the RedHawks overwhelmed a young Winters team with the serve, as they recorded 19 aces en route to a 25-16, 25-7, 25-13 win.
On the attack, Karsyn Gwinnup led the way with nine kills. Addison Lay finished with seven, while Elle Faris and Carly Simmons added six apiece, and setter Brooklyn Bradbury dished out 14 assists.
Lexy Avera tallied six aces and additionally made six digs.
The RedHawks again proved ungracious hosts last Thursday, dominating the Lions by scores of 25-9, 25-7, 25-11.
Bradbury handed out 15 more assists, Lay ended the night with nine kills, while Gwinnup hammered down eight.
With the Lions not able to get going offensively, there wasn’t much defense to be played, although Avera, Simmons, and Allie Reading each made four digs.
This week Colusa (14-5, 2-0) made the trip to face SVL foe Paradise on Sept. 13, returned home for a non-conference match against Orland on Sept. 14, and heads to Trowbridge tonight for its first league test tonight against a strong East Nicolaus squad.

The Bears went 1-1 last week to open Sacramento Valley League play after sweeping Paradise on the road and then succumbing to East Nicolaus at home.
Although statistics were not available, Pierce breezed by Paradise 25-16, 25-13, 25-19.
Against the Spartans, after a disastrous first set where they fell 15-25, the Bears showed some grit, but ultimately were edged 24-26 and 23-25 by East Nicolaus to bring the match to an end.

Pierce (3-10) hosted a tough Willows squad on Tuesday to start the week and heads to Winters this evening to meet the Warriors,
Williams, Maxwell
Neither the Yellowjackets nor the Panthers provided scores or statistics from last week’s matches prior to the Pioneer Review print deadline.
However, this week, the two teams squared off for the second time this season on Tuesday, Sept. 13.
Williams ends the preseason tonight in Princeton, while Maxwell was on the road for a match against Paradise Adventist Academy Wednesday and heads to Quincy for a tournament this weekend. ■
