After road losses to Willows and East Nicolaus to start last week, the ‘Jackets got back on track with a win over Winters.
Against a very strong Honker squad, Williams fell 17-25, 13-25, 21-25 with Mia Rivera recording six kills, Ashley Garcia making 10 digs, and Trinity Tungasmita handing out 11 assists.
In Trowbridge to face the Spartans two days later, the Yellowjackets won the opening set, but couldn’t hold the advantage, falling 25-16, 14-25, 20-25, 7-25.
Linda Rivera turned in a solid effort, logging a team high five kills and nine digs, while Tungasmita finished the match with 10 assists.
Williams made short work of the visiting Warriors in its final match last week, winning 25-21, 25-11, 25-13.
Tungasmita effectively directed the attack, distributing 22 assists. Mia Rivera landed 10 kills, with Garcia serving 10 aces.
Now .500 for the season, the Jackets (5-5) were scheduled to play Live Oak on Friday.
Pierce 0 – Wheatland 3 (8/29)
Pierce 0 – River Valley 3 (8/30)
Struggles continued for the Bears last week as they dropped a home match to Wheatland 18-25, 12-25, 21-25, before suffering a 20-25, 14-25, 18-25 setback at the hands of River Valley in Yuba City.
Kallie Stassi was strong at the service stripe against the Pirates, remaining perfect on 10 attempts, four of which were aces.
In the back row, Macey Myers finished with six digs and 16 receptions.
Against River Valley, Pierce again could not find a rhythm on the attack, tallying just 11 kills for the match.
Myers made a team high 15 digs and Tatum Mulqueeney pitched in with six.
Sacramento Valley League play commenced this week for the Bears (2-9), when they traveled to Paradise on Tuesday and host East Nicolaus tonight.
Maxwell 3 – Princeton 0 (8/29)
Maxwell 0 – Durham 3 (8/30)
Maxwell 3 – Paradise Adv. 0 (9/1)
Maxwell completed last week by sandwiching a loss between two relatively easy wins.
Making the short drive to Princeton on Aug. 29, the Panthers handled the Eagles 25-14, 25-18, 25-11, overwhelming their county rival with the serve and at the net.
Emma Hendrix led the way at the service line, with nine aces and additionally handed out 10 assists.
On the attack, Fatima Cano threw down nine kills, while Bailee Haywood led the defense with seven digs.
The following night, the Panthers found themselves in Durham playing a Trojan team that exacted its revenge for Maxwell’s win on Aug. 23.
No statistics were provided after the 20-25, 13-25, 14-25 loss.
Yet, the Panthers (6-2) got back to its winning ways in its next match, dismissing Paradise Adventist 25-7, 25-9, 25-14, as they dominated every facet of the game.
This week, Maxwell played their only match on Tuesday, traveling to Esparto to face the Spartans, a team they defeated 3-0 last month.
Colusa 1 – Yreka 3 (8/30)
Colusa 1 – Sutter 3 (9/1)
After suffering four set losses in Yreka (20-25, 25-22, 19-25, 21-25) and Sutter (25-23, 17-25, 22-25, 19-25) last week, the RedHawks made a strong showing at the 12th Annual Dixon High Volleyball Classic on Saturday, Sept. 3.
While no statistics from any of the matches were provided, in Dixon, Colusa finished second in pool play, beating Pioneer and Rio Linda, before dropping a close match to Yuba City.
As a result, the RedHawks moved into the gold bracket, where they outlasted Gridley then Woodland in highly competitive contests to punch their ticket to the championship game against Rodriguez from Fairfield.
Yet, the Mustangs proved too much for the travel weary RedHawks, who had logged over 650 miles of drive time last week, as they fell in straight sets.
Colusa (11-4) played its first home match of the season on Tuesday against Winters to open SVL play, was in Gridley on Wednesday for a non-conference match, and entertains Live Oak tonight. ■
