Colusa County has been fortunate to call one of those voices its own. Lyle Charter, the Cowboy Poet Laureate of Colusa County, shared stories and poems that honored the people, places, and traditions of our region. His words reflected not only the ranching heritage of Northern California but also the kindness, resilience, and neighborly spirit that define our community.
The Colusa County Free Library is deeply grateful to Lauren Charter for her generous donation of many of Lyle’s favorite books. These volumes will be cataloged in the coming weeks and permanently housed at the Arbuckle Branch Library, where they will serve as a lasting tribute to his life. Future generations of readers will be able to explore the books that inspired him while discovering the rich tradition of cowboy poetry.
