Puptoberfest Set for Oct. 24

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Puptoberfest is back on the calendar after organizers initially announced the annual dog-centered fundraiser would not take place this year.

The Colusa County Chamber of Commerce has stepped in to organize the event, scheduled for Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to noon at Veterans Memorial Park in Colusa.

Friends of the Colusa County Animal Shelter announced Aug. 27 that there would be no Puptoberfest in 2026 as organizers took a hiatus to regroup for 2027.

That changed when the Chamber agreed to take on the event.

“Yes, I know it was announced that Puptoberfest was not going to happen this year,” Colleen Wrysinski said. “Well, that wasn’t working for me so the Colusa County Chamber of Commerce will be hosting this year’s event.”

Wrysinski said several people who helped organize Puptoberfest in previous years have returned to help with this year’s event.

The revived Puptoberfest will include its traditional dog costume contest, a vendor fair, raffle and hot dog lunch. Organizers will also add a volunteer fair where local nonprofit organizations can connect with people interested in volunteering.

Costume contest categories include most original, best pair costume and most Halloweenie.

“And the best part, the Costume Contest!” Wrysinski said. “We are also combining this with a Volunteer Fair for local non-profits. You can see if there are any organizations that you might want to donate your time to.”

Friends of the Colusa County Animal Shelter, or FOCCAS, said it will receive half of the proceeds from the event.

“Come out with your favorite pup, hopefully in costume, have a hot dog lunch, for a donation, and support FOCCAS and our Animal Control Officers,” Wrysinski said.
