It’s unusually hot here in North Dakota.
Even though I grew up in California, where high summer temperatures are the norm, I still struggle with the heat.
I can’t believe I was perfectly happy driving a ’54 Ford and a Volkswagen Beetle with no air conditioning back in the day. I guess I was just happy to have wheels.
I’m hoping to get into the pool today. Yesterday it was simply too hot to be outside, even in the water.
I’m getting ready to welcome my darling niece, Sonya, for a visit. It’ll be quite an adventure for this California girl. She’s looking forward to experiencing the North Dakota lifestyle and exploring the wonders of the prairie. She especially wants to pet a cow!
She’s actually my cousin, but her mom, my dad’s baby sister, grew up with us and was more like my sister than my aunt. So Sonya has always called me Aunt Kathy.
In recent days, we lost a longtime friend, Bev Wolff. Bev and her late husband, Darrel, treated me like family for as long as I’ve lived in North Dakota. They were Auntie and Uncle to me and mine, and I loved and appreciated them both.
Bev never stopped missing Darrel during all the years since he passed.
She was steadfast in her faith. I have no doubt they are together again in heaven. There is a sense of peace when one of God’s children is called home. We know our loved ones are fine and blessed. They have gone home. It is those left behind who grieve.
We have been blessed by so many people throughout our lives.
We miss them, but the joy of having known them remains.
Life is good today.
