Williams 12 – Biggs 24
After being doubled up by visiting Biggs last Friday night at McCarl Field, the Yellowjackets now find themselves second in the Mid-Valley League standings behind Los Molinos.
Azael Velazquez and Varion Gonzalez each scored a touchdown in the first half, but four turnovers, two of which were returned for touchdowns ultimately doomed the ‘Jackets.
Coach Forrest Bateman credited the Wolverines for outplaying his squad in what may have been its most disappointing outing in an otherwise successful season.
Velazquez rushed 27 times for 153 yards, his sixth game over 100 yards this season, but sat out the second half with an illness.
Ricardo Medina stepped in at running back gaining 68 yards on 11 carries, while Gonzalez caught three passes for 54 yards.
For the defense, Julien Munoz made a team-high 12 tackles, Moises Vargas made eight and Anthony Gonzalez intercepted a pass.
Williams (6-2, 3-1) has a tough task ahead of it this week when it travels to face the MVL’s first place team, Los Molinos on Friday night.
Maxwell 21 – Hamilton City 28
Maxwell suffered its second defeat in as many games after coming up short on the road.
While the Panthers had a good night throwing the ball with quarterback Vincent Orozco completing 20 of 30 attempts for 242 yards and a pair of touchdowns, they were held to just 98 yards rushing by the Braves defense.
Colton Jones was on the receiving end of one of those scoring passes, finishing the game with four catches for 81 yards, while Landon Barrett hauled in five for 68 yards and Louis Minutti accounted for six catches for 63 yards and the other receiving touchdown in addition to running one in as well.
Defensively, Victor Martinez finished with a team-high 12 tackles, Lucas Bowen made 11 tackles and recovered a fumble, Barrett and Colt Montgomery had 10 tackles apiece, while Lance Pearson picked off a pass.
Maxwell (5-3, 2-2) looks to stop a two-game slide on Oct. 30 when it welcomes Biggs to town.
