Check It Out! A Year of Growth, Gratitude, and Community at the Colusa County Free Library

By Stacey Zwald Costello, Library Director

As 2025 draws to a close, the Colusa County Free Library is reflecting on a vibrant year filled with learning, creativity, and connection. None of it would have been possible without the incredible support of our patrons, partners, and community organizations who continue to make the library a welcoming home for readers, families, and lifelong learners across the county.

To our dedicated patrons: thank you for showing up, checking out books, attending programs, and sharing your love of reading with your neighbors. Your curiosity and enthusiasm are the heart of everything we do. Whether you visited us once or weekly, borrowed stacks of books or simply enjoyed a quiet moment in our spaces, your presence strengthens the library and inspires our staff.

We are also deeply grateful to the Friends of the Colusa County Free Library, whose tireless fundraising, advocacy, and generosity help us expand services and meet community needs. Their support continues to fund new books, e-resources, and engaging programs for all ages.

A special thank-you goes to the Colusa County Garden Club and our other community partners, who bring beauty, service, and collaboration to our branches year-round. Their contributions, from tending our outdoor spaces to supporting children’s programs, help create an environment where everyone feels welcome.

This year brought new challenges and opportunities, and through it all, the library remained a place of connection and imagination. Together, we hosted programs that celebrated local history, literacy, and creativity, supported students and families, and ensured that free access to information remained strong across all seven branches.

As we look ahead to 2026, we remain committed to growing with our community, strengthening our partnerships, and continuing to offer services that inspire, empower, and connect. Thank you for helping us make the Colusa County Free Library a place where everyone belongs.

Here are just a few fun facts that highlight what we accomplished together this year:

22,443 physical items and 6,846 digital items lent to Colusa County patrons

40,603 patrons visited our seven branch locations

7,120 service hours across seven branch locations

685 programs across seven branch libraries, with 5,601 attendees

335 new books sponsored by the Friends of the Colusa County Free Library

Thank you for a wonderful year, and here’s to many more chapters together.
