Come park with me: A time for thanks

A perfect Thanksgiving morning passed into a bright and beautiful day. The Fall colors were on display throughout Colusa County. Days such as these were what we wished for as a kid on holiday break; riding your bike around town all day enjoying the wonderful sunshine. This is what Fall was all about. The bounty of our area’s beauty was perfectly on display.

The City and Rotary planted 10 trees throughout the town on Dec. 6. One Trident Maple, two Japanese Elms, two Desert Willows, one Chinese Pistachio, two Scarlet Oaks, and two Shumard Red Oaks found their way into the soil in Colusa, bringing beauty and shade to future generations. Thank you City workers, Rotary, and the volunteers that made this happen. We look forward to years of  wonderful shade and stunning fall colors.

I am so thankful to all the time and energy that goes into making our community so great. The dedication of each and every business is overwhelming. Every day, the phone rings with a request from our citizens for help in making a project a success. Each day, that call is answered by our local businesses in donations of food, merchandise, and time. Thank you for the continued and generous support.

The power in our community is overwhelmingly evident in the groups that put together all the events throughout the year. There is an enthusiastic commitment to community in each and every one. I truly enjoy all the events and fundraisers that they all put on. They are the lifeblood of all that we enjoy.

I want to point out how thankful and appreciative I am of our local Swim Team Cartel. They brought back swim team for our children and have transformed the city pool. It is a shining example of community pride on full display.

The detailed maintenance of our city and its parks is also a source of community pride. Our parks are well used and appreciated because of how well they are maintained. An absolute thank you and salute to our city maintenance crew.

Two people that have worked hard to make our community stand out are Fernanda Vanetta and Sadie Boggs-Ash. They have a tireless commitment to the betterment of our community. They have taken the time to understand the needs of our citizens and have dedicated themselves to finding answers to fulfilling those needs. From the recreation department offerings to writing grant applications to fund those activities, they are a true asset to us all.

It is a joy to be a part of this community. I absolutely love writing this column. It would not be possible without the help and immense editing of Susan Meeker. Her support in giving a voice to all the local clubs and events is a major part of their success. She is dedicated to supporting all efforts to make our community a thriving and enjoyable place. Thank you Susan and Thank you Pioneer Review.

Cheers to our wonderful community.
