On July 30, 2026, Lawrence Angel Urrutia II (Larry), 78, of Maxwell, passed away peacefully in his sleep following a long illness.
Larry was a well known farmer and member of the community. He served on the Maxwell Fire Commissioner Board from1991 to 2001. He was a husband, brother, father, grandfather and a friend to many.
His family remembers him as a lover of music who had the uncanny ability to burst into song at a sudden moment. The songs could be anything from modern to opera, including many original songs to fit the occasion.

As a young man, he worked on the Urrutia sheep ranch with his father and grandfather. After graduating, Larry attended Chico State. He then returned to Maxwell and worked as a field man for Helena Chemical and later, Barber-Rowland Co.
Larry is survived by his wife, Cheryl, three children, Jenny Urrutia Buchanan, Ty (& Katelyn) Urrutia, and Zach (& Tatum) Urrutia. He had 9 grandchildren (Jewelia, Jessie, Jada, Daniel, Joseph, Paisley, Mackenzie, Hunter & Ada) and 2 sisters, Teresa Urrutia Holeman, and Veronica Urrutia Tofflemire.
Larry took over the family ranch and was an accomplished rice farmer. In more recent years, he enjoyed farming with his oldest son, Ty. He was also known as an avid enthusiast of hunting and fishing. He shared his love for these activities with many friends and family members.
