ARBUCKLE, CA (MPG) – Colusa County has expanded parking restrictions along Putnam Way in Arbuckle following complaints and concerns over large vehicles, long-term parking and unauthorized use of the public right-of-way.
The Colusa County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution Aug. 25 establishing a restricted parking area along the east side of Putnam Way, south of the Interstate 5 Access Road. The restriction covers about 680 feet of roadway adjacent to county-owned property.
Vehicles weighing 6 tons or more or measuring more than 8 feet in height will not be allowed to park within the designated area once the county installs regulatory signs.
According to the county Public Works Department, the area has experienced recurring problems with prolonged parking by large commercial vehicles, recreational vehicles and other oversized equipment. County officials also reported unauthorized commercial activities and vehicle storage in the area.
Public Works said those uses have generated public complaints and created maintenance and enforcement concerns.
“Unrestricted parking currently occurring within the proposed limits has created operational concerns, impeded routine roadway maintenance activities, reduced sight distance in certain locations, and contributed to unauthorized occupancy of the public right-of-way,” county staff wrote in its report to supervisors.
The county already restricts parking along portions of Putnam Way for vehicles exceeding three axles and 6 tons in gross vehicle weight. The Aug. 25 resolution expands restrictions to the east side of Putnam Way next to county property.
The resolution states the expanded restriction will “promote public safety, improve traffic circulation, preserve roadway access, and discourage the long-term parking of large commercial vehicles.”
A map included with the county’s proposal shows the new restricted area extending south along Putnam Way from the Freeway Undercrossing Road to Gail Ave.
