Countywide Back-to-School Resource Fair, Aug. 1

WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – Colusa County students and their families will have access to school supplies, free haircuts, health services and community resources during the first countywide Back-to-School Resource Fair on Saturday, Aug. 1.

Hosted by the Colusa County Office of Education, the free event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at CCOE’s Education Village, 499 Marguerite St. in Williams. Community organizations from Colusa and Sutter counties will join CCOE to help students prepare for the start of the 2026-27 school year.

The first 250 students in attendance will receive a backpack filled with school supplies. Families also will have access to free haircut vouchers and on-site haircuts, immunizations, literacy resources, recreational activities, family support services and information from a variety of local organizations.

The event is designed to remove barriers to school readiness by bringing educational, health and community services together in one location.

“When students have access to basic necessities, and families are connected to community resources, they are better prepared for a successful school year,” CCOE Communications Director Alissa Maas said. “This event reflects a countywide commitment to supporting the whole child, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to start school healthy, prepared and ready to learn.”

Licensed cosmetologists, stylists and barbers will be on hand to provide free student haircuts through a partnership with the Sutter County Career Training Center cosmetology program.

Organizers said the resource fair is the result of a collaborative effort among schools, healthcare providers, nonprofit organizations, businesses and community agencies working together to strengthen student success and family well-being. CCOE hopes the inaugural event will become an annual tradition serving families throughout Colusa County.

All Colusa County students who will attend a Colusa County district school during the 2026-27 school year and their families are invited to attend.
