COLUSA, CA (MPG) – The Levitt AMP Colusa Music Series continues Thursday, July 23, with Sinkane, the musical project of multi-instrumentalist Ahmed Gallab, bringing a blend of funk, pop, electronic music and Sudanese influences to Veterans Memorial Park.
Gallab has earned international recognition for creating a sound that draws from Black musical traditions while incorporating elements of Afrobeat, funk, electronic music and pop. His performances combine global influences with rhythms inspired by the music of 1970s and 1980s New York.
His latest album, “We Belong,” explores themes of identity, community and belonging through a mix of gospel, Afrobeat and funk. The album marks a departure from Gallab’s previous solo-focused work by featuring collaborations with co-lyricist Amanda Khiri and a diverse group of musicians.
Throughout his career, Gallab has developed a reputation for creating music that crosses cultural and musical boundaries while celebrating creativity and shared experiences.
The evening will begin with a special performance by participants in the Performing Arts Camp at 6 p.m., followed by Sinkane at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at the corner of Jay and 10th streets in downtown Colusa.
The Levitt AMP Colusa Music Series is presented by the Colusa County Arts Council with support from the Levitt Foundation, the City of Colusa and PG&E. Admission is free.
