COLUSA, CA (MPG) – The Levitt AMP Colusa Music Series continues Thursday, July 16, with Blair Crimmins & The Hookers bringing a modern take on ragtime, Dixieland jazz and swing to Veterans Memorial Park.
Atlanta-based musician Blair Crimmins has built a career by blending the sounds of the 1920s with contemporary songwriting. A multi-instrumentalist, Crimmins writes music featuring a classic New Orleans-style horn section while drawing inspiration from ragtime, jazz and early American music.
Since launching his career, Crimmins has toured throughout the United States and Italy, sharing the stage with acts including the Preservation Hall Jazz Band and Old Crow Medicine Show.
His debut album, “The Musical Stylings Of,” received significant college radio airplay and helped establish his distinctive sound. Crimmins later composed the score for the short film “Old Man Cabbage” and was named Best Songwriter by Creative Loafing in 2013. He also earned a Georgia Music Award nomination for his album “Sing-a-longs!”
Over the years, Crimmins has continued to expand his catalog with albums including “You Gotta Sell Something,” the children’s album “All Aboard,” and “Okay Boom!,” which features swing-inspired interpretations of songs by artists ranging from Louis Armstrong to David Bowie.
The free concert begins at 6:30 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park, located at the corner of Jay and 10th streets in downtown Colusa.
A dinner vendor will be announced. Community partners for the evening include Friends of the Colusa Library and the Kids Growing Strong Community Garden. The performance is sponsored by the Colusa Rural Firefighters.
The Levitt AMP Colusa Music Series is presented by the Colusa County Arts Council with support from the Levitt Foundation, the City of Colusa and PG&E. Admission is free.
