Colusa Baseball Sweeps Winters

PARADISE, CA (MPG) – Colusa journeyed into the foothills last Tuesday and came away with its second team victory of the season as it swept Paradise 7-0.

COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Over the years, Sacramento Valley League rivals Colusa and Winters have developed a healthy rivalry, however this year the Warriors proved no match for the RedHawks, who remained unbeaten on the season after sweeping the season series last week.

At home for the first game on Mar. 26, Colusa put up five runs in the bottom of the first inning and never looked back as they went on to shutout the visitors 10-0 in six innings.

Luke Kalfsbeek went 3 for 5 with a double, Jace MacKaben picked up a pair of hits and drove in a run, while Bo Coronado doubled and Kane Nall finished with a hit and two RBI.

On the mound, Kalfsbeek took control of the game going five innings and striking out a dozen before giving way to Seth Kalisuch, who closed out the final frame in the triumph.

In Winters on Mar. 28 to complete the series, the RedHawks got off to a slow start on a rainy afternoon, but broke through in the top of the sixth when Nall doubled to score Kalisuch who had reached on a walk.

Following three straight free passes that added another run to the total, Sutter Moss singled to plate Adan Travis and MacKaben.

Although the Warriors responded with a run, Colusa answered right back with two more in the seventh to make the final score 6-1.

Bo Coronado kept Winters in check, scattering seven hits, striking out 4 and conceding one earned run before turning the ball over to Peyton Humphrey who induced the final three outs.

When discussing the keys to the victory, Coach Eric Lay praised Coronado’s effort on the mound as well as Nall’s clutch hitting then also pointed to a diving catch made by Lucas Price who then doubled up the runner at first base,

On their Spring Break this week, the RedHawks ventured to the central coast for the Nipomo Spring Baseball Tournament where they put their unbeaten streak on the line against some unknown competition including Bishop Montgomery (Torrance), Pacheco (Los Banos) and Cabrillo (Lompoc).
