WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – More than 350 families attended the Colusa County Office of Education’s first countywide Back-to-School Resource Fair on Aug. 1 at the Education Village in Williams, taking advantage of free school supplies, health services and community resources before the start of the new school year.
The event brought together education, health and community organizations to help families prepare for the 2026-27 school year. The first 250 students received backpacks filled with school supplies, while families also had access to free haircuts, back-to-school immunizations, literacy resources, books, snacks and information about local programs and services.
The Sutter County Superintendent of Schools Career Training Center Cosmetology Program provided free haircuts for students, while Colusa County Health and Human Services Public Health offered free back-to-school immunizations.
“When students have access to basic necessities, and families are connected to community resources, they are better prepared for a successful school year,” CCOE Communications Director Alissa Maas said. “This event reflects a countywide commitment to supporting the whole child, and ensuring every student has the opportunity to start school healthy, prepared and ready to learn.”
The resource fair was made possible through the participation of numerous community partners, including CCOE Literacy for All, CCOE Children’s Services, CCOE Food Services, First 5 Colusa Children & Families Commission, the Colusa County Home Visiting Program, Arbuckle Parks and Recreation District, the Colusa County Oral Health Program, the Colusa County Free Library, the Colusa County Tobacco Education Program, Tri Counties Community Action Partnership, the Williams Fire Department, Colusa County Probation, Family SOUP, Colusa County Behavioral Health and the Colusa County Child Abuse Prevention Council and Family Resource Center.
CCOE said it hopes the inaugural event will become an annual tradition, bringing together local agencies and organizations to help ensure students begin each school year with the resources they need to succeed.
