COLUSA, CA (MPG) – It was a fast start for the RedHawk tennis team to open the season last week as it swept Corning 9-0 on the road before returning home to down Oroville 7-2.
On Aug. 25 in Corning, No. 1 Janell Garcia prevailed with a 6-2, 6-1 victory, while fellow senior Emily Lopez in the No. 2 spot emerged with a 6-4, 7-5 win.
Following suit was the rest of the ladder which includes juniors Ilyali Cruz (6-0, 6-0) at No. 3, No. 4 Hirami Ochiai (6-2, 6-2), No. 5 Luna Torres (6-0, 6-0) and No. 6 Charlotte Stever (6-2, 6-0).
On the doubles court the No. 1 pair of Garcia and Cruz had no trouble with their opponents cruising to an 8-0 win, the No. 2 pairing of Stever and Baylee Guizar won their match 8-2 and at No. 3 Lopez and Viviana Trejo triumphed 8-1.
Following up on Aug. 27, Lopez breezed to a 6-0, 6-1 victory, as did Cruz (6-1, 6-0), Ochiai (6-1, 6-0), Torres (6-1, 6-0) and Stever (6-0, 6-0).
Colusa took two of the three doubles matches with the duos of Stever/Guizar along with Lopez/Trejo both winning by scores of 8-2.
Preseason matches continued for the RedHawks this week as they entertained Las Plumas on Tuesday and Corning on Thursday.
