COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Two Williams runners topped their respective fields in the varsity boys and girls three mile events at the third Sacramento Valley League cross country meet held on Oct. 21 at the Colusa-Sacramento River Recreation Area.
Freshman Jeremiah Perez crossed the line first in the boys’ race with a time of 18:01, ahead of Colusa’s Bryan Sarabia (18:16) in second, teammate Phillip Santillan (18:27-PB) in third and Pierce’s Adan Beltran (20:24) in fourth.
It was the first SVL triumph for Perez, who in the last two meets had been steadily closing in on Sarabia, who is just a sophomore himself.
In the varsity girls’ competition underclassmen also went one-two, as the Yellowjackets’ Lucia Vidrio-Mederos won her third straight SVL race, finishing in a personal best time of 22:15, while Colusa’s Alexia Carmona (25:07) ran her fastest time at the three mile distance to claim second place.
Williams then headed to Mira Loma’s 10th Annual Flat SAC Invitational on Oct. 24, where Perez (12:58.1) placed seventh in frosh/soph 2.25 mile race that included 175 participants, while Vidrio-Mederos (15:46.2) was nineteenth in a field of 143.
SVL teams, that also include Willows and Winters, convened in Williams on Oct. 28 for the final conference meet before the league finals on Nov. 4 at the Stony Gorge Reservoir.
