COLUSA, CA (MPG) — The Colusa Rotary Club continued its biannual Trees for Tomorrow program on Saturday, Dec. 20, planting about nine trees across the City of Colusa in partnership with the Colusa Parks Trees and Recreation Commission.

Volunteers spent the morning planting trees at several locations throughout town, including Davison Park. One tree planted at the park will mark the future location of a firefighter memorial bench scheduled for installation by the Colusa City Fire Department.
The Trees for Tomorrow program provides trees at no cost to residents during spring and fall planting cycles. The effort supports long-term goals to beautify Colusa, replace aging or lost trees, reduce urban heat, and improve air quality. Rotary members and Tree Commission volunteers work together to select appropriate sites and tree varieties suited for local conditions.
As with past plantings, the City of Colusa assisted with site preparation, volunteers dug holes, and focused on planting and watering. The program relies on coordination between Rotary, the Tree Commission, and city staff to ensure trees are placed where they can thrive and provide lasting benefit.

The Trees for Tomorrow project began in 2020 as a Rotary-led initiative to recognize the club’s ongoing service to the community. In addition to tree planting, the Colusa Rotary Club supports scholarships, community events, park improvements, benches, service projects, and grants to local nonprofits.
The Dec. 20 planting marked another step toward maintaining and expanding Colusa’s urban canopy as many trees planted decades ago reach the end of their lifespan. Tree Commission members continue to track suitable species and locations for future plantings.
Rotary members said the club plans to continue the Trees for Tomorrow program in the coming years, with additional planting cycles scheduled each spring and fall to meet community needs and keep Colusa’s public spaces shaded and welcoming.
