PARADISE, CA (MPG) – Despite falling in their respective Sacramento Valley League Championship singles matches, Colusa’s Olivia Nair and Savanna Rochette advanced to the Northern Section tennis tournament, which will be held Oct. 28 at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro.

Nair, the RedHawks No. 1, dropped a close match to Willows’ Alexia Reyes 6-6 (6-12), 4-6 to finish second overall, while Rochette took fourth place after falling 0-6, 4-6 to Mckenize Yang, another Willows player.

Prior to the SVL individual playoffs, Colusa competed in the NSCIF team competition, where after defeating West Valley 6-3 at home on Oct. 17 in a first-round match, was ousted by Orland 6-0 on Oct. 19 where doubles were not played.
However, the victory over West Valley was an impressive one for the RedHawks, who haven’t won a girls team tennis playoff match in recent memory.

Rochette triumphed 6-1, 6-3 in the No. 2 spot, No. 3 Vianey Farias posted a 6-2, 6-1 win, while No. 5 Ashley Perez and No. 6 Janell Garcia bested their opponents 6-0, 6-1 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively.

On the doubles court, the duo of Nair/Rochette emerged with a hard-fought 6-4, 6-4 victory, while Perez/Garcia prevailed 6-2, 6-1.
