COLUSA, CA (MPG) – Running on their home course, the Colusa RedHawks dominated the varsity competitions at the fourth Sacramento Valley League meet held on Oct. 18 at the Sacramento State Recreation Area.
In the varsity boy’s race, the RedHawks’ Benji Garanados set a blistering pace on the 3.1-mile course to cross the line first in personal record time of 17:37.
Once again, Granados’ teammates did their part to help Colusa cruise past Live Oak 22-48, while setting records in the process.
Jose Ceron (19:14) in fourth, Cesar Cruz (20:16) in sixth, and Felix Venancio (20:21) in seventh each ran an individual best time, as did William England (20:35) in eighth, and Trenton Griffith (20:41) in ninth.
It was a similar story in the varsity girl’s division where the RedHawks ran past Pierce 21-37.
Colusa’s Rajdeep Shoker was the race winner, setting a personal record of 23:15, to finish ahead of Pierce’s Katrina Grajedra (25:50) in second.
RedHawks’ Giselle Valdes (27:18) and Sophia Thompson (28:40) were third and fifth, respectively, while the Bears’ Carla Moreno (29:54) took sixth in front of Colusa’s Bella Badaluco (30:21) in seventh, and Josslyn Garcia (31:21) in eighth.
In the JV boy’s two-mile event, the RedHawks’ Nuriel Cortes (13:47.60) was fifth, just edging Pierce’s Abram Carillo (13:47.93) in sixth.
Pierce and Colusa alternated spots in the JV girls’ race, starting with the Bears’ Grace Szmurlo (16:56) in first, the RedHawks’ Olivia Stever (18:17) in second, Pamela Verson (19:16) in third, Mia Cowsert (20:55) in fourth, and Mia Mendoza (24:55) in fifth.
SVL runners were at the Arbuckle Golf Course on Oct. 25 for the last regular season meet before the league finals, which will be held on Nov. 1 in Colusa.
