COLUSA, CA (MPG) – It was a strong start to the Sacramento Valley League season for the RedHawk tennis team, as it took no prisoners in a pair of 8-1 wins over Live Oak and Willows last week.
Hosting Live Oak on Sept. 12, Colusa swept the Lions in singles play then won two of the three doubles matches against a squad that has dominated the league for nearly a decade.
Numbers one through six in the RedHawk ladder each posted straight set victories and included Olivia Nair (6-2, 6-0), Savanna Rochette (6-1, 6-1), Vianey Farias (6-2, 6-1), Joanna Rodriguez (6-1, 6-3), Ashley Perez (6-1, 6-1), and Melanie Pinon (6-2, 6-1).
In doubles, the No. 1 duo of Nair and Rochette handled their competition by a score of 8-3, while at No. 3 Perez and Janell Garcia breezed to an 8-0 victory.
Following up in Willows on Sept. 14, Nair had a tougher go of it in the No. 1 spot coming from a set down to triumph 3-6, 6-4, 10-5, while her teammates each again prevailed in straight sets.
Also recording wins were Rochette (6-3, 6-2), Farias (6-1, 6-0), Rodriguez (6-2, 6-2), Perez (6-0, 6-1), and Pinon (6-0, 6-2).
On the doubles courts, No. 2 Farias/Rodriguez outlasted their opponents 8-6, while the combination of Perez/Garcia had no problem emerging from the match with an 8-1 win.
Colusa looked to keep its four match in streak intact this week when it faced off against Paradise on Tuesday before heading to Live Oak on Thursday. H
