Volleyball Roundup: Williams Yellowjackets

It was a rough start to last week for the Yellowjackets as they suffered a 6-25, 8-25, 13-25 loss to East Nicolaus, one of the Northern Section’s best teams, although they were able to bounce back in Winters where they posted a 25-13, 25-15, 25-15 victory over the Warriors.

While the ‘Jackets didn’t accumulate much in the way of statistics against the Spartans, Mia Rivera hammered home 10 kills against Winters.

Sophomore Lupita Zuniga had her best performance of the season thus far with eight kills, while Gisele Navaro handed out 12 assists.

No defensive statistics were provided by the Yellowjackets (5-8) who were in Maxwell on Sept. 5 before participating in the Hamilton City Tournament, which runs from Sept. 7-9.

Pierce 3 – CORE Butte 1 (8/31)

In its only match last week, the Bears notched a 25-8, 22-25, 25-11, 25-21 win over the CORE Butte Lynx.

Hailey Regnani led a balanced Pierce attack with six kills, while Ysabel Charter and Maicey Hoebel chipped in with five apiece and Jamie Figueroa finished the match with 15 assists.
At the service stripe, Gabby Sandoval served seven of the team’s 19 aces and additionally made 10 digs for the Bears, while back row mate Macey Myers logged 15 digs.

Pierce (5-4) had its first SVL match on Tuesday at home against Paradise then made the trip to Trowbridge to take on East Nicolaus on Thursday. H
