RedHawk softball takes two from Winters

Colusa shortstop Anahi Guzman throws to first for an out during the RedHawks win over Winters on March 29. Guzman went 2 for 2 with a triple.

As expected, the Colusa softball team notched a pair of Sacramento Valley League wins against Winters last week, edging the Warriors 6-5 at home on March 29 then cruised to a 12-1 victory in a run-rule shortened contest on April 1.

In the game last Tuesday, Colusa jumped ahead early putting runs on the board in the second and third innings then added three more in the fourth, but Winters kept pace with the help of three RedHawk errors, to tie the game in the fifth.

However, in the bottom of the sixth, Lexy Avera came up clutch, delivering a two-out double to score Anahi Guzman for the game winner.

Guzman had a productive day herself going 2 for 2 with a triple and three runs scored.

Ava Garcia earned the win in the circle striking out eight and allowing just one hit.

Traveling to Winters for the series finale, the RedHawks left nothing to chance pouring it on the Warriors with big innings in the second and third.

Colusa touched up Warrior pitching for 10 hits led by Reese Roper who finished 2 for 2 with a double and three RBI.

Abby Myers went 2 for 2, as did Naomi Silva.

Carly Simmons and Abby Wolf both doubled while Avera chipped in with an RBI single.
