Colusa 3 – Pierce 1 (9/17)
Colusa took a huge step in its quest for another section championship as it knocked off the No. 1 seed in the Northern Section, U-Prep, last Tuesday in a non-conference match before taking care of business in a Sacramento Valley League match against Pierce.
It was the first win over the Panthers in two years, but worth the wait as the RedHawks prevailed 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-17 behind a huge effort from their front row which outhit U-Prep 57 kills to 34.
Peyton Miller finished with a team-high 17 kills, Abby Coronado had 15 and Kendall Marengo added a season’s best 13 to the total.
Colusa’s setters Cindel Oliver and Leyla Avera performed well distributing 28 and 18 assists respectively.
On defense, Miller made 17 digs, Marlie Berry recorded 16 while Coronado pitched in with 12.
Following up with a match against Pierce in Arbuckle, the RedHawks came back after dropping the first set to win out 23-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-18.
Statistics from the match were not available.
Colusa (19-4, 3-0) battled East Nicolaus on Sept. 22 and Durham on Sept. 24 in contests that will determine the top spot in the SVL.
Maxwell 2 – Upper Lake 3 (9/15)
In its only game last week, Maxwell dropped a close one at home to Upper Lake in its final preseason contest by scores of 11-25, 25-18, 25-17,18-25, 10-15.
No statistics were provided by the Panthers (19-6) who opened Mid-Valley League play in Biggs on Sept. 22 before returning home to face Hamilton City.
Pierce 0 – Durham 3 (9/15)

After a rough night in Durham where they fell 14-25, 15-25, 16-25 the Bears came back to take a set off of Colusa before succumbing 25-23, 19-25, 22-25, 18-25.
Pierce never really got on track on the road managing just 16 kills against the Trojans, with Riley Delepierre accounting for a team-high seven, then defensively accounted for nine blocks.
Setter Audrey Weber handed out 14 assists while in the back row, Leslye Velazquez and Presli Harris subsequently made 12 and 10 digs.
Returning home to face Colusa, Delepierre hit at a .355 clip which was good for 18 kills, Weber dished out 23 assists, while Harris pitched in with a 10-assist, 11-dig double-double.
Velazquez led them team with 15 digs and Charlotte Reyna made 10 digs.
Looking to stop their two-match skid, the Bears (8-13, 1-2) continued Sacramento Valley League play in Paradise on Sept. 22 before hosting East Nicolaus on Sept. 24.
