A rematch of the 2025 Northern Section Division V championship game yielded no new results as the Panthers fell to the Lions on the road, marking their first loss of the 2026 season.
Maxwell’s offense which had been so potent in the first two games of the season was held in check managing just 99 yards of production on the night.
Louis Minutti accounted for the Panthers’ only points scoring the touchdown and then tacking on the extra point.
Landon Barrett made a team-high eight tackles, while Lance Pearson caused and recovered a fumble.
Looking to get back on track this week, the Panthers (2-1) welcome the Trinity Wolves to town.
Pierce 32 – Orland 48
Playing another NSCIF Division III opponent in the preseason, the Bears couldn’t find a way to slow down the Trojans who rushed for 426 yards in the game.
Despite the outcome, Coach Anthony Tapia pointed to some positives which included his defense continuing to play hard throughout the game despite being down four starters, the performance of his offensive line and the decisions made by Austin Jorge at quarterback.
Colin Dye and Kashius Nunley scored two touchdowns apiece, while Tapia also appreciated the way Ben Sweet stepped up running the ball after struggling a bit against Gridley two weeks ago.
This week the Bears (1-2) will host unbeaten Williams in the 97th rendition of the annual Rice Bowl.
