ARBUCKLE, CA (MPG) – Members of the Arbuckle Tidal Waves Swim Club gathered at the Pierce Pool on Aug. 8 to receive awards they had won and celebrate a successful season that saw them break six team records in addition to setting two new ones.
Organized by Mary Grimmer and Christabel Delgadillo back in 2009, the Tidal Waves are building back up after having to take a break when the pool was being rebuilt.
Now 15 years later, Grimmer remains the teams’ primary coach, but enlists the help of her former swimmers which this year included Quin Stephens, Lucabella Nolan, Bianca Minutti and Grant Grimmer.
Currently, the club has in the neighborhood of 20 swimmers, most of whom are elementary or middle school age.
Competing in the Sacramento Swim Recreational League the Tidal Waves squared off against teams from Davis, Woodland, Beale Air Force Base, Sacramento and Winters and finished in third place which was an impressive accomplishment as Grimmer explained, “We are a small team and only get six weeks in the water whereas the kids we are swimming against start in April and May.
Three members of the Tidal Waves’ club, Analise, Esme and Kenna Toland recently made the trip to Elk Grove to swim in the Meet of Champions with Grimmer reporting that all three lowered their times and posted personal records in the process.
Grimmer is hoping that the foundation the athletes get through the Tidal Waves program will pay off in high school as Pierce is fielding a swim team this fall, where it will compete against squads from Durham, Gridley, Orland, Oroville, Paradise and Winters.
