WILLIAMS, CA (MPG) – As summer practice continues for local football squads, for the second week in a row Williams opened McCarl Field to teams from Pierce, Corning and Willows on July 8 for another round of 7 v 7 action, providing a welcome midweek change of pace.
For Yellowjacket head coach Forrest Bateman, the experience is valuable for a number of reasons as he explained, “It’s great because it allows us to see where we are in our preparations for the upcoming season. It also gives kids the chance to compete against someone other than their teammates and is an opportunity to include some fun into the summer team workouts.”
It was a sentiment shared by Pierce head coach Anthony Tapia who remarked that, “Conditioning and the weight room can get real repetitive, so I know the guys enjoy showcasing their stuff against teams from other schools and that’s the best thing about it.”
There was more activity scheduled for July 15, although excessive temperatures may have altered the plans.
