COLUSA COUNTY, CA (MPG) – Since 1978, the District 4-C1 Lions All-Star Football Game has served as the unofficial end to the athletic calendar for the year, bringing together some of the top senior players not only in a North-South rivalry, but also to raise money for the organization’s philanthropic endeavors.
What has evolved over time is an occasion that now features two games, a small school matchup followed by a large school contest.
This year the event will be held on June 20 at Foothill High School in Palo Cedro and will include eight players from Colusa County.
Pierce’s Alejandro Alcaraz is the county’s lone representative on the South’s large school squad, which is comprised of athletes from Chico, Gridley, Las Plumas, Lindhurst, Live Oak, Marysville, Oroville, Paradise, Pleasant Valley, Sutter and Yuba City.
Meanwhile, seven locals will suit up for the South in the small school game, which this year also drew players from Biggs, East Nicolaus, Herlong, Loyalton, Quincy, Westwood and Winters.
Playing one last time for Maxwell, the Division V section runner up, will be Macklin Kuska, Erik New and Luke Pearson, while the Colusa contingent includes Asher Amsden, Mason Jennings and Hunter Purvis.
Julio Rosales from Williams will represent the Yellowjackets.
Tickets for the 49th rendition of the affair are available online at www.lionsallstarfootball4c1.org, with the small school game kicking off at 5 p.m. to be followed by the large school game at 7:30 p.m.
