Soccer roundup: Mixed bag on the pitch

Williams goalkeeper Jair Rivera made 10 saves in the Yellowjackets’ 2-1 win over Hamilton City on Feb. 3.

Boys:

Last week was a busy one for the Yellowjackets as they picked up two wins to offset a draw and a loss.

Starting off against visiting Las Plumas in a non-conference match on Jan. 30, the ‘Jackets had no problem finding the back of the net as five different players scored.

Ernie Lemus had two goals and assisted on another, while Dylan Chapa also recorded a brace.

Kaled Rosales scored once in addition to making three assists, Leo Hernandez finished with a goal and an assist to his credit, as did Axel Velazquez.

After playing Redding Christian to a draw in Palo Cedro, Williams hit the road again where it edged its bitter rival Hamilton City.

Goalkeeper Jair Rivera made 10 saves to preserve the win, while Hernandez and Lemus accounted for the scores in the game.

In a rematch of the Battle of the Buttes Tournament championship game that was postponed due to weather in December, the Yellowjackets were shutout by Live Oak.

Williams (10-2-6, 5-0-3) completed its regular season this week with back-to-back home games on Wednesday and Thursday against Durham and Maxwell respectively.

Pierce 0 – Winters 5 (1/31)
Pierce 3 – Los Molinos 2 (2/2)

After being shutout by Live Oak, the Bears rebounded to edge Los Molinos.
Francisco Ruiz, Emilio Velasquez, and Erick Ambriz each scored in the win.
Pierce (5-12-2, 3-4-1) was in Live Oak on Tuesday and plays its final regular season home game today against Willows.

Maxwell 2 – Durham 1 (1/30)
Maxwell 2 – Redding Christian 2 (2/2)

With a win and a draw last week, the Panthers (4-3-2, 3-3-2) sit fourth in the Mid-Valley League.

Maxwell, who hosted Paradise on Monday and makes the trip to Williams today, provided no statistics.

Colusa 0 – Live Oak 3 (1/31)
Colusa 0 – Winters 3 (2/2)

The RedHawks (5-8-4, 2-4-2) were shutout by the two top teams in the Sacramento Valley League last week and hoped to right the ship with a match on Tuesday against Willows and the regular season finale in Los Molinos today.

Girls:

The ‘Jackets dropped two heartbreakers last week as they fell to the Thunderbirds in a non-league matchup before suffering the same fate against Hamilton City.
Williams (7-4-1, 4-1-1) looks to close out the regular season on a positive note when it hosts Maxwell today.

Pierce 0 – Winters 9 (1/31)
Pierce 2 – Los Molinos 0 (2/2)

After being shutout by the Warriors in Winters, the Bears returned the favor when blanked Los Molinos.

Statistics were not provided by Pierce (3-10-2, 2-4-2), who played in Live Oak Tuesday and heads to Willows today.

Colusa 0 – Live Oak 14 (1/31)
Colusa 0 – Winters 4 (2/2)

A short-handed RedHawk squad could not get on the board last week against either of the SVL’s two top teams.

This week Colusa (3-13-2, 2-4-2) hosted Willows on Tuesday and is in Los Molinos today.

Maxwell 0 – Durham 0 (1/30)

In their only match last week, the Panthers played Durham to a draw and conclude the regular season this week when it welcomed Paradise to town on Monday ahead on a game in Williams today.
