RedHawk boys push win streak to 9

Colusa’s Isaiah Travis looks for space to drive in the RedHawks’ win over Las Plumas on Dec. 22. Travis had a double-double in the game.

Coming off their win at the Georgia Raczniak Tournament, the Colusa boys’ basketball team continued to find success as the RedHawks triumphed over Gridley and Las Plumas in respective home games last week.

Playing against the Bulldogs on Dec. 20, some last second heroics were required, but the RedHawks emerged with the victory when Landon Humphrey took the outlet pass from Isaiah Travis and drove the length of the court for the game winning layup with four seconds remaining in the game.

Yet, it wasn’t quite over as the Bulldogs had one more opportunity, however, Colusa’s Nicko Mata extinguished the threat by taking a charge that forced Gridley to turn the ball over, effectively sealing the 54-53 win.

Humphrey led the way with 28 points, Seth Kalisuch pitched in with eight points, and Travis pulled down 11 rebounds.

It was a much easier go of it against Las Plumas last Thursday night as, despite the scrappy effort from the Thunderbirds to keep it close, the RedHawks cruised to a 76-60 victory.

Travis had a big night with a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double. Humphrey dropped 18 and Kalisuch went for 16 points.

Having his best performance of the season thus far was Niko Silvas, who finished with 12 points, including a particularly strong second quarter, where he hit some timely shots to break the Thunderbirds’ momentum.

Another RedHawk garnering double-digits in the scoring column, was Leo Bedolla, who had 10 points in addition to corralling nine boards.

Colusa (9-4) returns to action in Trowbridge on Jan. 4 for a Sacramento Valley League contest against East Nicolaus, then travels to Roseville on Jan. 6 to face Valley Christian.
