RedHawk tennis rallies for two wins

Although last week started off badly with a shutout, non-conference loss in Orland, the Colusa tennis team railed back to earn two Sacramento Valley League wins over Willows and Quincy.

On the road in Willows on March 22, Colusa endured the blustery conditions to edge the Honkers 5-4.

No. 3 Chris Rodriguez defeated his opponent handily 6-1, 6-1, while No. 4 Antonio Garcia dropped his first set 4-6, but came back strong to win the second set 7-6 and the tiebreaker 13-11.

The RedHawks got their final singles win in the No. 6 match with Arthur Andreotti prevailing 6-3, 6-3.

In doubles, the duo of Rodriguez and Alberto Leos won 8-3, as did Garcia and Rosendo Flores, who also notched an 8-3 victory.

Colusa closed out the week, downing visiting Quincy 6-2, in a match that was closer than the final score might indicate.

Leo Bedolla got back to his winning ways at No. 2, emerging 7-5, 6-2, while Rodriguez stayed hot posting a 6-0, 6-1 victory in his No. 3 spot.

Also picking up singles wins were No. 5 Leos (6-0, 6-3) and No. 6 Andreotti (6-2, 6-2).

To conclude the match against the Trojans, Bedolla and Asa Smith got the better of their competition by an 8-5 score, while Garcia and Flores made it two in a row with an 8-3 triumph.

Now 5-4 overall and 2-1 in the SVL, the RedHawks played in Live Oak on March 29, but scores were not available by the Pioneer Review print deadline.
